This epic ballad was shared with the Christian Brothers Oceania Province in the February 2010 edition of their publication HEARTBEATS, and is now being made available to a world-wide readership.
We trust that its historical interpretations will not give any offence and that its reference to ‘bloody protestants’ will be taken in the spirit of dramatic immersion from which it splashes out! The three visuals accompanying the poem are reproductions of paintings by Hugh Sharpe cfc and were originally created to accompany other Edmund poems. They represent the three key women in Edmund’s life: his wife Mary, his mother Margaret, and his daughter Mary. The artist has given personal permission for their publication here, and hopes they will “help to give more people insights into Edmund”.
